Amidst rising concern over absenteeism of a huge number of Class 10 students in the summative assessment 2 examination , another shocking figure of skipping of examination by Class 9 students has come to fore.
As many as 14,935 students have skipped the Class 9 (HSC & Madhyama 2021-22) examination, the result of which was published by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) today.
A total of 5,66,269 students had enrolled for the Class 9 examination of which 5,51,334 appeared in the examination while 14,935 remained absent, as per a press release issued by the board.
Similarly, 3399 students had enrolled for Madhyama examination of which 3270 had appeared and 129 remained absent.
The board said all the candidates who have appeared the Class IX examination will be promoted to Class- X.
“However, 30138 candidates in Grade F (II) have to improve upon their performance in Improvement Tests to be conducted by the concerned schools,” the board said.
It added that the candidates having Grade F (I) have been declared passed on consideration because they fulfill some minimum criteria as regards to aggregate & individual subject marks.
The F (II) candidates will be given three chances to acquire qualifying marks (30%) in each failed subject. Schools will provide remedial teachings to these candidates till May 31, 2022 and conduct improvement tests on June 1, June 8 and June 16.
“Candidates not qualifying at first Improvement test shall appear second Improvement Test after being given remedial teachings in between, for seven days and so on for second & third improvement tests. Schools will prepare questions out of 20 marks and test will be of 40 minutes duration,” the BSE added.
Regarding the absentee candidates, the BSE said all District Education Officers (DEOs) shall submit an exhaustive report regarding 14935 candidates who remained absent from the examination.
“Board will send their data and a report shall be sent by them to Board on or before May 31 as to why these candidates could not appear, though they have been enrolled by their respective Head Masters,” the BSE added.
