Kota, located about 240 kilometers south of Rajasthan capital Jaipur, is known among the youth of India for its coaching institutes for engineering and medical entrance examinations. At least 1,50,000 visit the city every year to prepare for JEE, NEET and many other competitive exams, making it an Edtech city.
A major part of Kota’s economy depends on its student population. The entrance coaching industry generates about Rs 40,000 million which further contributes towards the economy of the region. In this article, we will know about VK Bansal, the man behind transforming Kota into India’s coaching hub.
VK Bansal, the founder of Bansal Classes, is recognized for establishing the first IIT JEE coaching institute in Kota.
As per a report in TOI, Bansal was born in Jhansi and excelled academically and was a graduate from Banaras Hindu University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Initially, Bansal moved to Kota and worked as an engineer at JK Synthetics.
However, he decided to start Bansal Classes in 1991 and dedicated his free time to teaching engineering entrance exam preparation to local students. Over time, his coaching institute became famous and students from various parts of India started to attend his classes.
Bansal classes achieved great success after its students secured the top two positions in All-India IIT-JEE in 2000. Since then, there has been no looking back. Slowly, several other coaching institutes came up for JEE, NEET and AIIMS Nursing, making Kota the coaching hub of India.
Tragically, Bansal passed away on May 3, 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic, as per a DNA India report. However, his legacy lives on through the coaching industry he started.
