Nina Singh, the first woman IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre has created history by becoming the first woman chief of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which provides security cover to airports and industrial units across the country.
Nina, who was serving as the Special DG of CISF, has now been elevated to the post of Director General in the central forces. The 1989-batch IPS officer has been with CISF since 2021 and will remain as the chief till her retirement on July 31 next year.
According to sources, Nina hails from Bihar and attended the Patna Women’s College and the Jawaharlal Nehru University. After her graduation, she went on to pursue her Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
Apart from being an IPS officer, she also has co-authored two research papers with Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo. She was also the Joint Director of CBI during 2013-2018. She has overseen high-profile cases such as actress Jiah Khan suicide and the controversial Sheena Bora murder case.
She has received the prestigious Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal for her professional excellence. On the personal front, she is happily married to Rohit Kumar Singh, an Indian Administrative Service officer, currently posted as the Secretary of the Union Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Meanwhile, Anish Dayal Singh, the chief of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been named the Director General of CRPF.
