Ahead of the 2022 Matriculation examination, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has come up with a new scheme of assessment for the session 2021-22 both for Classes 9 and 10 students.
The new scheme of assessment comes in the backdrop of closure of schools and disruptions in the conduct of examinations due to Covid-19 since 2020. The Class 10 Board or the annual Matriculation examination had to be cancelled this year due to the second wave of the Covid pandemic.
The results of the Matriculation examination were published by the BSE through an alternative method of assessment. As no examinations have been conducted either at school or Board level in Class 9 for students of this academic session (2021-22), BSE is now focussing on assessment based on Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), by which internal assessments can be directly conducted at school level.
Similarly, other Summative assessments could be conducted by Board directly or by schools under monitoring control of Board and other Government agencies.
New Scheme For 2021-22
Academic Session for 2021-22 will be from July 2021 to April, 2022 without any long vacation. The Academic Session will be divided into two terms- the first term will be from July, 2021 to November, 2021 and the second term from December, 2021 to April, 2022.
The internal assessments will be done at the school level in line with the pattern of CCE. The internal assessment will be done by the class/ subject teachers periodically in continuous manner. lt will be done in the form of Formative Assessments (FAs). Each Formative Test will be of 20 marks.
Formative Assessments (FAs) for the Class 9 students to be held in first week of September, November (first week), January (second week) and in March (second week). Similarly, the Formative Assessments (FAs) for Class 10 students to be held in first week of September, November (first week), January (second week) and in March (second week).
Examinations:
For Class 9:
There will be two term-end examinations:
One at the end of Term-1 during third week of November 2021 covering 50 percent of the total syllabus. The pattern of Examination will be multiple choice questions of 20 marks and subjective questions of 20 marks (1 hour duration). The examination will be conducted at home school and questions will be prepared by the BSE, Odisha. The evaluation will be carried out by a neutral school to be notified by the Board.
The final examination will be conducted at the end of second term during second week of April,2022. Questions will come from the entire syllabus. However 30 percent of the questions will be from the first 50 percent of the syllabus and the rest 70 percent of the questions will be set from the second 50 percent of the syllabus. The pattern of examination will be multiple choice questions of 50 marks and subjective questions of 30 marks.
The tests will be of two hours duration. At the end of the final examination, the results will be published by the home school taking weightage of different examinations conducted. However marks of four FAs and two term-end examinations shall be uploaded by the Mentor school.
In case the term-end examinations could not be conducted at schools, the students can appear the examinations at their homes and submit the answer books with the schools in scheduled time. The evaluation will be done as usual by the neutral school.
Weightage to be given for final results:
Internal Assessment:20%
First Term-end Examination: 30%
Final Examination (Second Term-end Examination): 50 %
Class 10:
There will be two examinations, one each at the end of each term. Both the examination will be directly conducted by the Board. The students will have to fill up the forms online to appear at the examination centres selected by the Board.
First examination will be conducted during the last week of November 2021. The pattern of examination will be of multiple choice questions of 50 marks (of 1 hour duration) to be answered in OMR answer sheets. Questions will be from first 50 percent of the syllabus. Evaluation will be done by the Board through computer.
Final examination will be conducted during last week of April 2022 while the pattern of examination will be multiple choice questions of 50 marks and subjective questions of 30 marks. Questions will be set from the whole syllabus. Multiple choice questions will be answered in OMR answer sheets.
ln case the examinations could not be held due to worsening of pandemic situation, the students will have to appear the examination from home. Evaluation will be done by neutral school and marks shall be uploaded in Board's portal to be notified by the Board. The District Education officers will determine the neutral schools where evaluation will be done.
Mode of assessment for different situations for Class 10:
In case the examinations are conducted, the results will be processed taking the following weightage for different examinations into account:-
Internal Assessment:20%
First Term-end Examination: 30%
Final Examination (Second Term-end Examination): 50 %
However, the difference between internal Assessment marks and Term End examination marks should be within 30%. In case the percentage of difference is more with internal Assessment on higher side, the marks of internal Assessment will be brought down so that the difference in percentage remains at 30 % level.
In case the first term end examination could not be held and final exam is conducted:-
The results will be processed as per the marks obtained in final examination along with the internal Assessments marks and marks obtained in first term examination conducted at home with the weightage as given below:
Internal Assessment: 20%
First Term-end Examination: 20%
Final Examination (Second Term-end Examination): 60 %
In case the first term is held and the final exam could not be conducted:-
The results will be processed as per the marks obtained at the first term-end examination along with the performance of candidates in internal Assessment and Final examination conducted at home the following weightage:
Internal Assessment:20%
First Term End Examination: 50%
Final Examination (Second Term end Examination): 30 %
The following weightage will be given to different examinations for the determination of school wise merit list. Last 5 year results will be analysed and results will be published based on the moderation policy of the Board to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment.
Internal Assessment: 20%
First Term end Examination: 30%
Final Examination (2nd Term-end Examination): 50 %
