Matric dropouts to be convinced for supplementary exam: Odisha Minister

The students who dropped out of Matric examination this year will appear for supplementary examination, informed School & Mass Education minister, Samir Ranjan Dash on Tuesday.

The Minister said, "13,058 students have dropped out of the Matric exams this year. They will be identified and discussions will be held with their guardians to make them appear for the supplementary exams."

“Over 5.71 lakh students had appeared for matric exams in 2021-22, out of which 45,000 students did not appear, which was 7.7 percent of the total. As far as this year is concerned, the dropout percent till now is 2.5 percent,” he said.

Speaking about the supplementary exams, Dash said, “We will visit door-to-door and find out why did they chose to drop out and convince them to appear for supplementary exams.”

The announcement came following pandemonium in the Odisha Assembly proceedings on Tuesday over the government's 5T initiative. Leader of Opposition (LoP), Jayanarayan Mishra stated that the Odisha government is boasting about development of schools via the 5T initiative while most of the schools lack teachers in the state.

The LoP raised the issue of students dropping out of the ongoing matriculation examination in the state. Jayanarayan Mishra stated that Odisha ranks on top as far as the dropout ratio is concerned in the country.
