In a society where exam failures often result in scolding or shame, a family in Karnataka has set a powerful example of encouragement and compassion by celebrating their son’s academic setback with love and support.
Abhishek Cholachagudda, a Class 10 student of Basaveshwar English Medium School in Bagalkot, failed all six subjects in his SSLC board examinations, securing 200 marks out of 625, just 32%. Instead of expressing disappointment, his family chose to mark the moment with a celebration, gathering together to cut a cake and appreciate his efforts.
The simple family gathering showed Abhishek surrounded by his parents, sister, grandmother, and other relatives as they cheered him on. The cake was boldly decorated with his score, not to mock, but to honour his attempt and give him strength for the future. His father, Yallappa Cholachagudda, a professional photographer, and his mother shared a message of hope, asking him to continue trying without fear.
“You’ve worked hard throughout the year and began preparing from the start. That makes us proud,” his mother said. “We truly believed you would pass, just as you’ve done before. It’s all right that you didn’t clear it this time, you came very close,” she added.
His father shared the sentiment and said, “What matters now is that you practise more than before and study sincerely. Go into the next exam with confidence and aim to succeed. Don’t dwell on the failure. We must focus on what lies ahead. You’ve shown commitment, and we believe you can do even better.”
“Don’t be discouraged, nothing is lost. Stay positive, work harder, and show others that failure is not the end. Be an example,” he said.
The family’s quiet act, shared by PTI, is now being hailed as an inspiring example of how to handle failure with dignity and warmth.
