Responding to Member of Parliament (MP) Karti P Chidambaram’s letter, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the matter regarding the one-time relaxation of eligibility criteria for JEE Main and Advanced exams has been sent to the concerned department.
“Thank you for your letter dated 2nd December 2022 and 15th December 2022, regarding a one-time exemption to relax the eligibility criteria for all students appearing for the JEE Main and advanced exams in 2023. The matter has been sent to the concerned department for necessary action,” the Union Minister’s letter read.
Elated over the response, MP Karti P Chidambaram tweeted, “The Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Minister of India has responded to my letter requesting immediate relaxation in the eligibility criteria for JEE 2023. I hope the Govt will look into the requests and concerns of aggrieved students.”
Earlier in December, the MP had urged the Union Education Minister to relax the eligibility criteria for students appearing in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 and JEE Advanced 2023 as a one-time measure.
In a letter to the Education Minister, he had said, “Both the sessions of the JEE Main exam 2022 held in June-July, and the JEE Advanced exam 2022 held in August were marred with a multitude of technical glitches. Several students were unable to sit for the exam as their examination centre got changed at the last moment, without prior intimation via SMS or email. Several candidates also experienced discrepancies in their response sheet, as well as errors in their result.”
“A significant number of students who tell prey to these difficulties in JEE Main or JEE Advanced were availing the last attempt at these exams this year. For students who graduated Class XII in 2020. it was their last attempt at both JEE Main & JEE Advanced this year. and for those that graduated in 2021, it was their last attempt at JEE Advanced this year,” he further said.
As per this year's rules, candidates who have passed Class 12 in 2021 and 2022 or are set to appear for the board exam in 2023, can write JEE Main 2023.
The registration for JEE Main 2023 is underway and the deadline for the application process is January 12. The exam will be conducted in two sessions with the first session scheduled to be held on January 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31.
