The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has issued revised guidelines for resolving various issues of students including corrections in the name of students and other credentials in the statement of marks, grade cards and provisional certificates.
As per the notification, “The request of students for correction in the names, spelling, father’s name, guardian’s name, address printed in the statement of marks and certificates after competition of programme will also be entertained even though the degree certificate has already been issued.”
The students will have to pay a fee of Rs 500 for any change/ corrections in statement of marks, grade cards, provisional certificates for 31st convocation onwards. Similarly, a fee of Rs 1500 will be charged for the corrections in such documents from first convocation to 30th convocation.

“However, if it is established that there is mistake in name etc on part of the university, no fee for this purpose will be charged from the students. The students will have to return the grade card/ provisional and degree certificate, if issued with the previous name,” the notification added.
Guidelines:
Minor correction in spelling of student’s name/father’s name: Self attested copy of Class 10 certificate issued by the recognised Board of Education/ Aadhaar card
Change in full name: Newspaper cuttings (in original) as proof of the advertisement published with regard to change in name in at least two Indian leading daily newspapers. Affidavit, in original, on non-judicial stamp paper of appropriate value sworn in before 1st class Magistrate specifying the change in the name.
Change in address: Aadhaar card/ any other document issued by the government/ government organisation.
