Several students who appeared for the annual high school certificate (HSC) offline examinations in Odisha on Tuesday were in for a rude shock after they were given ex-regular question papers of 2014.
About 20 regular students were reportedly given 2014 ex-regular question papers during today’s examination at Board High School in Cuttack. After the faux pass was brought to the notice, the examination authorities took back the papers and gave the regular question papers to the students.
“When we sat in the examination hall today, we were given 2014 ex-regular question papers. By the time we realised the mistake, we had already finished our objective-type questions and started answering the subjective-type questions. Later, the school authorities gave us regular papers which we were given one hour, from 12 pm to 1 pm, to answer” said a girl student.

An ex-regular student, who appeared in the examination today, also alleged that he was given regular question papers.
“I am an ex-regular student, but I got the regular question paper. Many students in my room were also allotted regular question papers. I informed the invigilator after 10 minutes, but the question papers were not changed and we submitted the answer sheets. Initially, the authorities assured us that we will be counted as regular students. However, after the examination got over, they took a U-turn and said ‘we will see’”, alleged another student.
Expressing displeasure over the goof-up, the guardian of a student said, “After writing for one paper, when they came to know that question papers were wrong, they became impatient. The Board is playing with the future of the students,” he said.
Dilip Kumar Behera, headmaster of Cuttack Board High School, said, “About 20 examinees were mistakenly given ex-regular question papers. We resolved the issue immediately and changed the questions papers.”
It is reminded here that as many as 15,155 students have opted for Class 10 offline examinations after being dissatisfied with the marks awarded to them through an alternative assessment system. The examinations which started on July 30 will conclude on August 5.
