A question in the Term 1 (Major) Examination for Class 12 students of the Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) held on Wednesday has sparked off a row. And, this has prompted the Board to come up with a clarification on the issue.
As per sources, a controversy was reported after a question related to 2002 riots in Gujarat was asked in the Sociology exam paper.
The question was: "The unprecedented scale and spread of anti-muslim violence in Gujarat in 2002 took place under which government?" Sources said, there were four options in the MCQ-based paper for the above mentioned question- Congress, BJP, Democratic and Republican.
The CBSE subsequently issued a clarification yesterday and tweeted, "A question has been asked in today's class 12 sociology Term 1 exam which is inappropriate and in violation of the CBSE guidelines for external subject experts for setting question papers. CBSE acknowledges the error made and will take strict action against the responsible persons."
"The CBSE guidelines for paper setters clearly state that they have to ensure the questions should be academic oriented only and should be class, religion neutral and should not touch upon domains that could harm sentiments of people based on social and political choices," the Board’s tweet read.
In another development, the CBSE has issued a circular for all the Centre Superintendents, Principals regarding the printing of question papers for the Term 1 Examinations 2021-22. In the circular, the Board has said that it is providing question papers in almost all the subjects in English and Hindi separately in Term 1 Examinations.
"It has come to the notice that some of the examination centres are printing both English and Hindi versions of question papers and thereafter these are being distributed to the students. This is not as per the directions supplied by the CBSE," the circular read.
It is desired that only the English version of question paper is to be printed first and supplied to the students. Hindi version question paper is printed only if any candidate is in need of Hindi version of the question paper, the circular read.
“Same way, where Hindi medium has been adopted by the candidates, the examination centres should first print the Hindi version of the question paper and provide the same to the students. English version question paper should be printed only if it is required by any student,” the notification added.
