The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools to incorporate daily positive affirmations into their morning assemblies, starting from the 2025–26 academic year. This move is part of the board’s wider strategy to integrate practices that contribute to students' overall development.

Structure and Language of Affirmations

According to the advisory issued by CBSE, schools are expected to include one to two age-appropriate affirmations each day. These affirmations will reflect themes such as health, discipline, mutual respect and responsible use of technology. The board has also recommended that these be delivered in both English and Hindi to ensure inclusivity.

Sample affirmations shared by the board include:

  • "I am calm and stable in every situation"

  • "I respect everyone. I respect nature"

  • "I use gadgets only for studying"

CBSE also encourages schools to:

Involve students in the process by allowing them to participate in creating or leading the affirmations

Adjust the format to suit their assembly schedules and innovate further as needed

Focus on Socio-Emotional Learning

The initiative is aimed at contributing to the socio-emotional learning of students. CBSE stated that evidence from various studies supports the role of routine positive affirmations in improving concentration, behaviour and classroom climate. The directive gives flexibility to schools to adapt the structure to their schedules and introduce innovations.

Part of Broader Holistic Education Reforms

This step adds to the CBSE’s existing set of reforms aimed at promoting holistic education, including life skills programmes and structured counselling services. The board maintains that structured start-of-day routines can help standardise emotional regulation mechanisms in school environments.

Implementation and Monitoring

All CBSE-affiliated institutions have been asked to implement this practice from the start of the next academic session. Compliance will be monitored through periodic reporting formats.
