The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice on SHRESHTA, the Centrally funded scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for Residential Education to meritorious SC students in Class 9 and 11 from academic year 2022-23.
As per the notice, the Ministry is launching a Scheme for Residential Education for SC in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA). A fully funded scheme will be rolled out from 2022-23 onwards.
“The scheme aims at providing residential educational opportunities for meritorious SC students (boys/girls). All the residential schools (independent category) affiliated with the Board to submit online consent by March 25, 2022,” the CBSE letter read.
Salient Features:
-It provides an entry at Class 9 and 11 in selected affiliated CBSE private residential schools for completion of education till class 12.
-The selection will be through a National level NETS (National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA) to be conducted by the National Testing Agency in Computer Bases Test Mode.
-The scheme involves disbursement of scholarships directly to the admission granting schools. -The scholarships cover school fee (including tuition fee etc) and hostel fee (including mess charges) subject to maximum limit.
-The scheme is applicable only for residential schools (independent) affiliated with the CBSE up to Class 12. -The schools must be in operation for 5 years or more with 75 per cent pass percentage or more in Class 10 and Class 12 in last three years.
-The scheme provides an opportunity for reputed schools for onboarding in the development interventions offering high quality education to the meritorious students of Scheduled Caste communities.
