Students who will be appearing for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2025 need to have at least 75 per cent attendance in the academic year.

The board has formally notified the principals and heads of affiliated schools about strict enforcement of the attendance requirement emphasising adherence to Rules 13 and 14 of the examination bye-laws.

As per the bye-laws, the students need to maintain a minimum of 75 per cent attendance to qualify for the board exams.

However, students facing medical emergencies or participating in national or international sporting events will be granted a relaxation of up to 25 per cent attendance, provided they submit a valid document.

Meanwhile, the CBSE has directed schools to communicate with both the students and parents about compulsory attendance.

"The Board may conduct surprise inspections to verify student attendance records. During such inspections, if it is found that the records are incomplete or if it is manifest that students have not been attending regularly, the school may face strict action, including disaffiliation," the official release issued by the board read.
