The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the ‘CBSE Budding Authors Programme’ on the second anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The CBSE Budding Authors Programme, an extension of the reading mission of the board, has been launched in partnership with Central Square Foundation, Pratham Books’ StoryWeaver and National Book Trust.
As per CBSE, the objective of the programme is to provide students a platform to engage in reading different types of stories and learn to write effectively.
As students will have to write and submit short stories under this programme, it will provide students an opportunity to express their creativity and get a chance to see them published, CBSE said in a statement.
The students can submit their stories in Hindi or English in the following three categories:
1. Category 1 for classes 5 -6
Length of submissions: 500- 600 words
2. Category 2 for classes 7-8
Length of submissions: 600- 900 words
3.Category 3 for 9-10
Length of submissions: 1000-1500 words

Conduct of the Programme at the School Level
Timeline: 24th August- 16thSeptember 2022
Second Phase
(a) Registration and Onboarding on the Technology Platform
Timeline: 16th September – 30th September 2022
Contest on the Technology Platform
Timeline: 30h September – 02nd November 2022
Evaluation and Publication
The entries submitted by students at the Second Phase would be evaluated by a panel of experts. Shortlisted entries of each category will be provided editorial support to finalise their creation. Best entries selected at the national level will be published by CBSE as a collection of short stories for each category.
