The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked its affiliated schools to regulate and restrict their students’ enrolment in classes 1 to 12 as per the previous directions issued by the Board.

In its latest circular, the CBSE has informed that it is going to launch the sixth version of the School Affiliation Reengineered Automation System (SARAS) for seeking applications under different categories for 2026-27 session.

Hence, the CBSE has asked the schools to regulate their sections as per affiliation bye-laws so that they are able to maintain the optimum number of students to 40 in each section from 2026-27 session.

It is pertinent to mention here that in its previous circular, issued in May 2024, the CBSE had communicated that schools affiliated to the Board should realign the students to 40 per section over the next three years that is up to session 2025-26 for classes 1 to 12.

As per clause 4.8 of the Affiliation Bye-Laws, "The optimum number of students shall be 40 in each section. Availability of one square meter Built-up Floor Area per child in the class rooms is an absolute necessity in the school. Subject to this the details of the allowed sections, as per the rules of these byelaws and availability of land and infrastructure."

“It is further to apprise that CBSE has always aimed to provide a friendly, convenient and barrier free platform to its stakeholder for facilitating request under various categories. The Board will soon be launching its sixth version of SARAS (School Affiliation Reengineered Automation System) for seeking applications under different categories of Affiliation for 2026-27 session,” said CBSE in its circular.
