An unfinished 5T school that was inaugurated last month is adversely affecting the quality of education, leaving the residents of Sarukoi under Phiringia block of Kandhamal district fumed.
According to sources, the building of Sarukoi Upgraded High School, a school transformed under the 5T initiative of the Odisha Govt, was inaugurated virtually by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on January 29.
The villagers alleged that the school building had been inaugurated in a hurried manner ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections even though 50 percent of construction work is pending.

Three weeks have passed since the inauguration, but the school’s construction work has not been completed as yet. Because of this, students are experiencing a lot of problems, the villagers alleged.
The parents and the villagers have demanded early steps to complete the school’s construction work.
“Presently, the students are not going to school. When enquired, we came to know that the school’s construction work had not been completed. The school building should have been inaugurated after the completion of the construction work,” said Sanjay Jani, a Sarukoi village resident.
Sarukoi 5T School SMC member, Barun Sahani alleged, “We, the committee members, are still in the dark as to why the school building was inaugurated in a hurry.”
When contacted, the headmistress of Sarukoi 5T School, Fulani Pradhan said, “Regarding the school’s problems, I had a discussion with the BDO yesterday. He assured me that the remaining work would be completed in a week.”
