Severe rainfall caused substantial damage to the Badagada Canal Road in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, disrupting the vital connection to the main route.
As per reports, a stretch of 30-foot road collapsed allegedly due to heavy rain.
This has led to deep concerns among residents, who assembled to voice their frustrations.
Upon learning about the damage, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das reportedly visited the spot to evaluate the deteriorating situation. However, local residents surrounded the Mayor, highlighting their anxieties about the road damage following heavy rains.
Local residents express concern
As per the local residents, the road may fully collapse at any moment, posing a threat to their lives.

"These kinds of things occur every year. The Irrigation Department only wakes up after excess rainwater enters the houses of the residents in the area. The department is saying that they don't have the required funds to complete the drainage and road projects in the area. They are not concerned about the welfare and the lives of people," said a local resident.
Official response
"Generally, we clean the canals before the rainy season every year. However, it got late this year as the old siphons are to be replaced. The Assistant Engineer had visited the place yesterday to take stock of the situation. The road collapse was an accident. Money is not an issue, and it will be taken care of," said an official of the Irrigation Department.
"The department should have taken care of the issue as it comes under their responsibility. We have written about the matter to the concerned department and the Chief Secretary umpteen times in the past," said Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das.
