Nayagarh: Armed dacoits looted Rs 49 lakh belonging to State Bank of India after exploding bombs when the cash was being transported in a jeep in Orissa`s Nayagarh district today, police said.

About seven dacoits on motor cycles hurled crude bombs at the jeep at Achhupada on NH-57 when the cash was being transported from Nayagarh to Daspalla branch, Sub-divisional Police Officer B P Mahanta said.

After the swift operation, the dacoits fled with the box containing the cash as the jeep driver was injured in the blast and four others in the vehicle including security men were terrorised, he said.

Senior police officials have rushed to the site and investigation was on and no one is being arrested yet. Police in nearby areas have been alerted, police said.

The driver of the jeep has been admitted to a hospital nearby for treatment, police said.
