Gorakhpur: Three members of family were critically wounded as armed dacoits looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh from their residence in Pipiganj area of the district, police said on Monday.

Injured house owner Ram Ajit Verma (52) and his two sons Sunil and Ashok have been shifted to the district hospital, police said. According to sources, station house officer and two constables have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.

More than 10 dacoits entered Verma`s residence around 3 am and snatched gold chains, rings and keys of almirahs, police said, adding when Sunil and Ashok resisted, they hurled countrymade bombs on them. The dacoits decamped with Rs 26,000 cash, investment certificates worth over Rs 95,000 and some jewellery items.
