Rourkela (Orissa): The police today arrested Ashok Majhi (25), a youth wanted in different cases, after an encounter at Kalunga area on the outskirts of the Rourkela city.
The police said Ashok was wanted in at least 30 cases including murder, dacoity and extortion in different areas of Sundargarh and in neighbouring Jharsuguda district.
He was evading arrest for the last seven years and was intercepted today at Kalunga area when trying to flee to neighbouring Jharkhand.
Ashok, finding police presence, first fired two bullets at the police. Police retaliated leaving him injured on his legs. However there was no injury from police side.
He was immediately overpowered and was admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) here where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
