A waiter at a beer parlour near Delta Square in Bhubaneswar sustained grievous injuries after a group of youths attacked him with a beer bottle following a heated argument, on Tuesday.

As per reports, the incident took place at the parlour in the evening when the irate customers hit the waiter with the bottle on his head, leaving him grievously injured. The injured waiter, identified as Alok Barik, was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said a group of four to five youths visited the parlour in the evening. Later, the youths got into an argument with the waiter over some unknown reasons. The heated exchange of words took a dangerous turn when, in a fit of rage, they not only hit the waiter with a beer bottle on the head, they also stabbed him multiple times with the broken glass bottle.

Following the attack, the miscreants fled the spot and are yet to be nabbed.

The police meanwhile, claimed that the whereabouts of the attackers has been traced and efforts are on to nab them.

Some other employees at the parlour said that the youths are from the locality and often hang around the place. Incidentally, the CCTV cameras at the establishment and in the neighbourhood are dysfunctional, informed sources, adding that the youths are habitual offenders having involvement in several criminal activities. It is also suspected that the youths had some previous grouse against Barik which triggered the argument and subsequent attack.

Nevertheless, questions have been raised over the safety of employees at the establishment located in a busy market area of the Capital City during peak business hours.
