The Biridi police on Friday arrested a mother-son duo for allegedly killing a two-year-old boy at Sankarpur in Jagatsinghpur district on Friday.

The body of the toddler Soumya Bhoi had been found in a canal in the village on Wednesday after he went missing for two days.

As per police sources, the minor boy and his mother were carrying a piece of bamboo for decoration purposes for Kartikeshwara Puja in their village Monday when the accident occurred. The child was hit by the bamboo when he was playing on the road. Unfortunately, he was badly injured and died instantaneously. Following the death of the child, the mother-son duo got scared and carried the body and threw it into a nearby canal instead of taking him to a doctor.

As per reports, Soumya, son of Kanheyalal Bhoi, had gone to his uncle’s house with his mother on Monday. The child reportedly went missing in the afternoon while he was playing near the house.

His parents and other members of his family started looking out for the child around the house in a desperate bid to trace him. When they could not find him, they filed a missing report at the Biridi police station. The police launched a hunt for the missing boy and subsequently the body of the toddler was found in the canal near his uncle’s house after two days.

The family members had then suspected that the child had been murdered and dumped into the canal.
