A journalist arrested by Nilagiri Police under Balasore district was found with his leg chained to the hospital bed where he was admitted for treatment following his arrest Wednesday.

As per reports, police had arrested the scribe following a complaint by a home guard who was allegedly thrashed by the journalist Wednesday.

However, the health condition of the accused deteriorated after which he was admitted to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on the same day for treatment. However, he was treated on the hospital bed with his leg chained.

However, the Inspector in Charge (IIC) of Nilagiri Police Station, Draupadi Das refuted the reports of the police chaining the ailing journalist. Speaking over phone, Das said, “No handcuffs were issued from my station on the said date. My staff were at the station all through the day and night. They were not involved in leg-cuffing the journalist.”

The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Nilagiri is looking into the matter and has assured a probe to ascertain who chained the leg of the accused and why.
