Mother of Deb Kumar Gamang, the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Gangapur police station in Ganjam district who died of the bullet injuries he suffered at his official residence under mysterious circumstances on Friday, has claimed that two more policemen were present at the house when the incident took place.

The deceased police officer’s mother told reporters on Saturday that 2 ‘three star’ police personnel were present with her son at home at the time of the incident.

“Two police personnel (three-star rank officers) were with my son at home. They (guests) asked me to go to the bathroom, which I followed. Moments later, I heard the sound of gunshot and saw my son lying in a pool of blood when I came out,” said the deceased officer’s mother.

Her claims have nevertheless, given a new twist to the entire mystery surrounding the events and circumstances that led to the death of the young police officer. Questions have now been raised over the purpose of the two other police officers visit and the subsequent firing incident.

Earlier on Friday, Deb sustained two gun shots wounds on his body, below waist. Subsequently, he was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.

Ganjam SP, Brijesh Ray yesterday said, "He had joined the Gangapur Police station just four months back. I can confirm that the bullet wound he sustained was shot from his service revolver. He was under mental stress from past few months. We can tell more only after the completion of the investigation."

Police have engaged forensic and ballistic experts to probe deeper into the incident while the body was sent for post mortem. The reports are awaited.
