Dhenkanal Police on Monday arrested nine persons for their alleged involvement in the loot of gold ornaments and cash in a dacoity at Odisha Gramya Bank under Rasol police limits on January 12.

Gold ornaments worth over Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 11.55 lakh cash has been recovered from the miscreants. Senior police officials said that out of the nine miscreants, who have been arrested in connection with the crime, four persons have been booked on the charges of conspiracy.

A total of 11 persons, including six conspirators, are involved in the entire robbery case. “We have arrested nine persons so far and two others are still absconding. As per the bank officials, around 7 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 12.77 lakh cash were looted by the miscreants. We have managed to recover over 5 kg gold ornaments and Rs 11.55 lakh cash,” said Dhenkanal SP, Loganayagi Divya V.

The senior police officials said that further investigation is underway as some inter-district criminals are involved in the bank loot case.

It is pertinent to mention here that four to five miscreants had looted the mortgaged gold ornaments and cash from the Odisha Gramya Bank after attacking the bank officials on January 12.

After the crime, the miscreants had planned to dispose the gold ornaments by transferring them in a taxi to Cuttack. “We have already identified the two persons who are still absconding and they will be arrested soon,” the SP added.
