Gunupur police on Tuesday arrested two persons from Aska in connection with a loot from a jeweller near Haladia canal last week and seized 1.4kg gold ornaments and a bike from their possession.

The two accused have been identified as Tarun Das of Bhanjanagar and Arjun Pradhan from Jajpur. 

Briefing media about the development, Rayagada SP Bibekananda Sharma said, "Of the 3 kg gold, we have so far recovered 1.4 kg ornaments. Two accused have been arrested while two other are at large. Further investigation into the matter is on."

"We have launched a manhunt to arrest the others involved in the loot and recover remain gold," he added.

Notably, two motorcycle-borne miscreants had decamped with 3 kg gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash from a jeweller outside his shop in Gunupur of Rayagada district on April 26. 

The owner was opening the shop when the miscreants arrived on a bike and snatched the bag containing the gold ornaments and cash from him.

The shop owner had lodged a complaint with the local police.
