Engineering college lady accountant held for embezzling Rs 97 lakh

A lady accountant of a private engineering college at Tamando has been arrested on charges of embezzling Rs 97 lakh in Bhubaneswar on Friday

As per the allegation lodged by the college authorities, the lady had siphoned off college funds to the tune of Rs 97 lakh to the account of her boyfriend.

ACP, Prakash Chandra Pal informed that the lady accountant was into some relationship with the accused who happens to an ex-student at the same college. 

 “The lady staff had transferred the money after the Jharkhand youth coaxed her to send him money on various alibis including expenses for his father’s treatment in the past two years. The lady had transferred all the funds digitally,” said Pal.

Recently, the concerned lady staff had informed the matter to the College authorities who subsequently conducted an audit. 

The college authorities later lodged a complaint against the lady at Tamando police station which was followed by an investigation and her subsequent detention.

“We will shortly send a team to Jharkhand for carrying out further investigation into the incident,” Pal added.
