Teachers and other staff in schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the State will be vaccinated on a priority basis, announced the Odisha government on Thursday.
The moves comes after a day after the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya urged states to get all school teachers vaccinated on priority before September 5, on the occasion of ‘Teachers' Day’.
The Centre would provide two crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines to states this month, sources said. The Odisha Health Department has geared up to complete the drive to inoculate teachers and other teaching and non-teaching staff in schools and other educational institutions following the Centre’s appeal.

The State government has issued directions to the District Education Officers (DEOs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to prepare a list of vaccinated and non-vaccinated teachers at the earliest.
The non-vaccinated teachers will be vaccinated in special vaccination camps to be organised jointly by the Health and Education departments in the State.
The special drive to vaccinate teachers will start after the State received the additional 11 lakh doses of vaccine vials by August 27.
“We have received a letter from the Centre to vaccinate teachers and non-teaching staff in the State. Government will provide additional vaccine doses and the priority will be given to those who are yet to receive their second dose and teachers,” said Bijay Panigrahi, Director Health and Family Welfare Department.
