Ganjam: In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, another tragic incident of the virus breaking family cord came to the fore from Aska area of Ganjam district on Saturday.
As per reports, the dead bodies of a mother-daughter duo from Dharmaraypur village under Sanakhemundi block were reportedly cremated by the volunteers of a social organisation as the family members didn’t touch the bodies suspecting that the death might have occurred due to Covid-19 infection.

Tamal Panda (70) and her 38-year-old daughter Kumar Acharya passed away on Friday night. Though the case of their death was not ascertained, the family members and villagers didn’t turn up to cremate the bodies in fear that they might have succumbed to the virus.
Knowing about the villagers’ indifference, the local administration came forward with helping hands and motivated a social organisation to lend shoulders to the bodies.
With PPE kits on, two volunteers of the social organisation, the old woman’s son and another relative carried the bodies to the crematorium and performed the last rites. Local BDO, Tehsildar and the IIC were present during the funeral.
