Odisha will run out of Covishield vaccines as the vaccine stock in the state will last for only two-three days, informed State Nodal Officer for Immunisation Dr Bijay Panigrahi on Monday.
Speaking to media, Panigrahi said, "Odisha has a stock of only 2.21 lakh Covishield jabs. Except Bhubaneswar, all the districts were supplied with Covishield for the vaccination drive. So we need more Covishield vaccine for the booster dose."
However, over 7 lakh Covaxin doses are available in the State, he informed.
We have written to the Centre to supply sufficient Covishield and Covaxin jabs for smooth conduct of the inoculation drive, the top health official said.
As many as 4.59 lakh people in 18-59 age group have been administered with the booster dose, Panigrahi informed.
Acting on the Centre’s order, Odisha on Friday had launched free booster vaccination for the 18-59 age group in the State.
The special vaccination drive will run for 75 days as the country will celebrate 75 years of Independence on August 15.
It is worthwhile to mention here that, India on Sunday reached the historic milestone of 200 crore mark in Covid-19 vaccination. The milestone has been achieved after 18 months when the nation began the mass vaccination on 16 January 2021.
