Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Tuesday witnessed a fall in the single day Covid 19 cases with 2,487 new infections even as daily fatalities showed no sign of abatement with 51 infected persons succumbing to the virus in last 24 hours.
With the fresh fatalities, the cumulative death toll in the State rose to 4299.
Of the 51 deaths, Khordha district including Bhubaneswar accounted for maximum casualties at nine. Five deaths have been recorded each in Bargarh, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal, 3 each in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Sundergarh and Jajpur districts. Similarly, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Ganjam and Nayagarh have registered two deaths each during the period.

One patient died due to the viral infection each in Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Keonjhar and Nabarangpur district in last 24 hours, the Health and Family Welfare Department tweeted.
The Health department further clarified that the deaths are not the cases of a particular day or filed in a real-time basis.
“This list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the death audit process has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as due to Covid-19,” the Health Department mentioned through Its Twitter page.
Out of the 2,487 fresh positive cases detected today, 1,428 have been detected from quarantine and rest 1059 are local transmission cases. The new infections have pushed the State tally to 927186.
The state now has 28,730 active cases and 894104 people have recovered from the disease so far, including 3,326 new recoveries, the Information and Public Information Department stated through a tweet.
Cuttack district topped the chart with 422 positives followed by Khordha with 407 new cases.
Jajpur, Balasore, Puri Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak remained next to Khordha with 202,157,154, 126, 113 new cases respectively.
Only three districts -Deogarh, Kalahandi, Nuapada recorded single digit figure in Covid spike. Rests of the districts have reported below 100 cases.
The district-wise analysis shows that regions in coastal belt have increasingly larger percentage of daily cases compared the situation in the western and southern parts of Odisha.
The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in Odisha stands at 3.93%.
