Nayagarh: A medical team, along with a tehsildar, was detained for around four hours over alleged anomalies in Covid test reports at Mayurjhalia village under Ranpur block in the district on Saturday.
According to reports, a team of health professionals had camped at the village and collected swab samples from 24 persons for RT-PCR test three days ago.
Out of the 24 persons, 20 persons were found infected with the virus. However, one of the infected persons again got his rapid antigen test done at Ranpur health centre where he tested negative.
The discovery led to tension in the village, said Dr Biswajit Mohapatra, who is a member of the medical team.
“We had conducted RT-PCR test on 24 persons and 20 came out positive. They all were doing fine and we had provided thr required medicines. In the meantime, one infected person did rapid antigen test a day after the RT-PCR examination," Mohapatra said.
After the report in the antigen test came negative, others created rukus in the village over the difference,” he added.
Later, the local tehsildar rushed to the village on receiving the information about the uproar in the village. He tried to pacify the locals by making them aware about RT-PCR and antigen tests, he said.

The villagers, however, were in no mood to listen to the tehsildar and didn’t spare him too.
Later, police intervened in the matter and pacified the irate locals before rescuing the medical team and tehsildar.
“Some vested interests had detained the medical team and abused them verbally in an inebriated condition after some of them tested negative for Covid in antigen test. When we got the information, we immediately swung into action and rescued the medical team,” said Rasmi Ranjan Dash, Chandpur police IIC.
A case has also been registered based on the complaint filed by Mohapatra, the IIC said.
