At a time when the Millennium city of Cuttack is gearing up for Durga Puja festivities, a steep rise in the daily Covid-19 infections has set the alarm bells ringing.
As per the data shared by the State Information and Public Relations Department, the city registered over a six-fold increase in the daily Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours. From just 10 infections on Wednesday, Cuttack’s daily Covid tally jumped to 66 on Thursday, highest in the State.
A total of 286 new cases have been reported across the State today of which 36 are in the age bracket of 0-18 years. Similarly, 167 quarantine and 119 local contacts cases have been reported.
Khordha district which witnessed 45 cases yesterday registered a slight jump in the infections with 51 persons being tested positive for the virus. Sundargarh came third in the list with 39 new cases while Sambalpur reported 18 cases.
The State also reported 275 new recoveries in the past 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 1320216. The active cases in the State now stood at 1685.
So far the virus has claimed 9,185 lives in the State. However, no death has been reported in the last 24 hours.
