Despite the State government’s plethora of measures including lockdown, weekend shutdown and night curfew to curb the spread of Covid-19, there seems to be no sign of decline in the Covid infection graph in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
According to data shared by the Information and Public Relation department, Bhubaneswar reported 311 cases on July 16, 372 on July 17 and 318 infections on July 18.
Similarly, Cuttack recorded 308 infections on July 17, 348 cases on July 18 and 335 cases today, respectively, while the daily infections in the Cuttack municipality area stands near 100, the data revealed.

With 1244 and 1396 active cases in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar respectively, the present Covid-19 situation has emerged as a major concern for the Health department.
Commenting on the present Covid-19 situation, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanjay Singh said, “Earlier we used to report over 1000 cases daily, but now the number has come down to around 300. The infection is now in plateau stage. But, it is still a matter of concern for us.”
“As expected, the cases are declining. Like Kerala and Maharashtra, the graph is static in few districts in the State. This phenomenon is natural is Second wave,” said Public Health Director Dr Nirajan Mishra.
Odisha on Monday reported 1648 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours. The number of daily infections is not plummeting after a certain stage. This phenomenon is called thick-tail phenomenon, said DMET CBK Mohanty.
“The daily infection has plummeted by 80 to 90 per cent and lying at a base-stage. This is known as thick-tail or fatty-tail phenomenon. Like Maharashtra and Kerala, now Odisha is witnessing the phenomenon,” Mohanty informed.
