Bhubaneswar: The Covid 19 vaccination of expectant mothers has begun in the State from today as per scheduled.
The registration for the inoculation of pregnant women can be done on the special page of CoWin website, Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bijay Panigrahi, said.
As many as 9 lakh expectant mothers are registered in the State annually out of which 4.5 lakh women can be identified for Covid vaccination, he added.

Side by side, the mass vaccination programme is also continuing in the State. So far, the State has already administered vaccine shots to as many over 1.38 crore beneficiaries, Panigrahi added.
The State has currently a stock of 4.61 lakh Covishield doses and 1.79 lakh Covaxin shots, the top Health official informed.
The Government has made elaborate arrangements for pregnant women at vaccination centres for smooth inoculation drive. Waiting lobbies have been set up for them at every vaccination site so that they would not have to stand for hours in long queues along with others to receive the jab.
Dedicated waiting room has been set up at the Capital Hospital for the vaccination of expectant mothers. “They would not stand in queues. We have waiting rooms where they can seat and wait for their turn following on spot registration. Special attention has been given for hassle-free inoculation of this group as per the government protocol,” Director of Capital Hospital Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo said.
The Central government has set certain guidelines for the vaccination of pregnant women.
The beneficiaries will be apprised of the possible risk factors and benefits of vaccination before inoculation.
In order to avoid long distance travel, the districts authorities would prepare the list of beneficiaries for transportation to the nearby session sites on the particular day of the session.
The local ANM will counsel the beneficiaries and ASHA workers will mobilise them to the centre on the scheduled date. After receiving the dose, they would be kept under observation for 30 minutes for possible AEFI (adverse event following immunization), if any.
