Odisha on Wednesday witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases, with three additional positive cases confirmed. This development raises the total number of known coronavirus infections in the State to 18. This marks a continued rise in cases amid a mild resurgence of the virus in the state.
Tragically, Odisha recorded its first COVID-19-related death of 2025 on May 31. The deceased was an 85-year-old man from Bhubaneswar who had tested positive for the virus four days prior to his death. He was undergoing treatment at home and had multiple comorbidities, which likely contributed to the deterioration of his health condition.
Testing Ramped Up
Health authorities in the state are urging residents to adhere to safety protocols seriously, including wearing masks, practising physical distancing, and maintaining hand hygiene. Efforts are underway to trace contacts of the affected individuals to prevent further spread of the virus.
Testing efforts are being ramped up while healthcare facilities are being strengthened to cope with any potential increase in patient numbers.
