Continuing its initiative to vaccinate the vulnerable sections in the Capital City with a view to protect them from Coronavirus infection, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday organised vaccination camps for homeless people like nomads and beggars.
A majority of these people may not have any identity card and are living in different Shelter For Urban Homeless (SUH) under the Corporation's jurisdiction.
The camps were organised at the SUHs located at Unit-6 (Ganga Nagar), Ashok Nagar and Nildari Vihar areas. People of or above 45 years were inoculated at the camps, informed the BMC.

It may be noted that there are five other such SUHs functioning under the BMC at Bhimpur, Mali Sahi, Baramunda, Kharabela Nagar and Ghatikia for the homeless.
The BMC has also started a mandatory Covid-19 drive for vendors/hawkers from today. The programme started from Tarini Market in Niladri Vihar area at 9 am, said reports.
Earlier on Wednesday, the BMC vaccinated the senior citizens of three old-age homes who are unable to register or visit the session sites on their own.
The team visited three old age homes at Tankapani Road, Old Town and Nuagaon. All the beneficiaries were vaccinated following appropriate medical procedures. More vaccination camps will be organised at several old-age homes in Bhubaneswar in the coming days, said the BMC.
The BMC team also visited the Odisha Association for the Blind yesterday and vaccinated all the inmates in the age group of 45 and above.
On May 12, the Odisha Government had announced that it will administer Covid-19 vaccines to the vulnerable people who do not possess any of the seven prescribed identity cards for registration on CoWIN, as a part of its effort to inoculate the entire population of the State.
Such groups of people include nomads (including sadhu/saints from various religions), prison inmates, inmates in mental health Institutions, citizens in old age homes, roadside beggars, people residing in rehabilitation centers/camps and any other identified eligible persons, aged 18 years or more, and not having any of above prescribed individual photo ID cards, PK Mohapatra, the Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department had said in a letter to the district authorities and municipal commissioners.
