Even as the spike in COVID-19 and Omicron cases in recent times has become a major concern for Odisha, a study by health experts and researchers at VIMSAR has increased the worries.
As per reports, a 4-member team of experts at VIMSAR had conducted a study to measure the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and the duration of their effectiveness. The study was conducted with a sample size of 112 individuals who had received a double dose.
The people involved in the study had received both jabs within a gap of 28-30 days between the doses. The blood sample of the people was tested in three phases. Around 99 percent of them had developed antibodies.
As per the study, of the 112 subjects, 11 did not develop antibodies even a month after receiving the first jab. On the other hand, the antibody level in 7 persons had considerably reduced after 6 months of receiving the 2nd dose of Covishield vaccine, found the study.
"Around 99.95 percent individuals had developed antibodies in a month after receiving the 2nd dose. However, the antibody level had reduced considerably to only traces in 7 persons after 6 months, whereas, remaining individuals though had antibody present in their body, it significantly waned after 6 months of post the second dose in comparison to the first month," said Sanjib Kumar Mishra, team leader, VIMSAR Research Center.
The team of researchers also included RMRC Director Sanghamitra Pati.
