As many as 17 more MBBS students were tested positive for Covid-19 at the Burla Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Sambalpur on Wednesday.
The detection of new positives at the premier medical institute has taken the total number of virus infection cases to 47. All the infected students and suspected cases have been asked to stay in isolation, informed VIMSAR Dean, Professor Jayshree Dora.
The Sambalpur district administration on Tuesday declared several hostels and staff quarters of the VIMSAR as micro containment zones and buffer zones after as many as 34 MBBS students tested positive for the SARS-n-CoV.
As per the order issued by the district authorities, the containment period is effective from today (7 am) until further orders. Extensive surveillance and contact tracing have been carried out at all the hostels and campus of the medical institute.
On the other hand, a total of 288 new Covid cases were reported from across Odisha today. The tally includes 53 new cases from the age group of 0 to 18 years. While 166 positives were detected from quarantine, 122 were traced as local contact infections.
The state's cumulative infection figures have jumped to 1047674. With 151 fresh recoveries, the total recovered cases have climbed up to 1037152. Similarly, the Covid death toll in the state has jumped to 8399 with reports of 3 new fatalities.
