Thiruvnanthapuram: Ridiculing reports that some constituents of the LDF were keen to oust Congress-led UDF from power in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today asserted that his ministry would run its full term.

"The LDF need not entertain any false hope on this. The UDF government will complete its full five year term as we are holding power not because of the LDF's generosity," Chandy said.

He was reacting to media reports that as lead partner of the LDF, the CPI(M) is under pressure from some of its allies to dislodge the 21-month-old ministry by weaning the disgruntled partners away from the ruling front.

"We have been given mandate to rule by the people of Kerala. UDF is totally united. So, the LDF need not entertain any false hope that government could be toppled," Chandy said.

He said the ruling front still enjoyed the support of the people as had been proved by winning two assembly polls it faced after coming to power in May 2011.

Referring to the slender majority it commands in the state Assembly, Chandy said "what matters more than numbers is the determination of the government to go ahead with its policies and programmes."

"In a democracy, the government needs the opposition's co-operation for implementing the developmental programmes.

But we have not received that co-operation from LDF. Still,I will continue to seek the LDF's co-operation on developmental front, not its generosity for completing the five-year-term," he said.

There have been reports that on its part the CPI(M) is averse to the idea of toppling an elected government but some of its partners wanted the coalition to explore possibilities of bringing an early end to its rule. This feeling was put across at the LDF's state committee which met yesterday.
