Ghaziabad (UP): Police today arrested eight people involved in the kidnapping of a nine-year-old boy suffering from blood cancer even as his parents paid Rs 60 lakh ransom to the abductors for his release. Eight people, including a former domestic help of the family, involved in the kidnapping of Paras were arrested from near Meerut and Kavi Nagar area here, police said.

The boy was freed by his captors yesterday after his family paid Rs 60 lakh ransom, they said. After Paras was released, police raided Mundali village near Meerut and arrested two persons following an encounter. Three policemen were injured in the gunfight.

In another encounter at Kavi Nagar area, six people involved in the abduction were arrested. One of the arrested included a former domestic help of the family, police said. Paras was kidnapped from Hapur on October 18 when he was on way to school in a car. The kidnappers had demanded Rs one crore ransom for his release from his businessman father Amit Jain.

Meanwhile, police denied that any ransom was paid for the release of the kidnapped nine-year-old boy. While addressing the reporters here, IG (Meerut) Rajiv Krishan and City SSP Raghubir Lal denied reports that the parents had paid a ransom of Rs 60 lakh to the abductors for securing the release of the boy. Paras and his father Amit Jain, were also present at the news-conference, where the latter denied paying the ransom.
