Thanks to the government’s (Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) FAME incentive, electric two-wheelers have managed to catch the interest of buyers in the Country.
With many big players like, Ola, TVS, Bajaj and Hero, the electric two-wheeler market is set to see some exciting new launches soon.
As we draw close to saying goodbye to 2023 and welcoming 2024, let us see some new launches slated for next year in the electric two-wheeler market:
Honda Activa Electric
Honda recently revealed it will enter the EV game with two new e-scooters, increasing the likelihood of the arrival of the e-Activa next year. Honda will introduce two new products including a “mid-range” electric vehicle by FY2024 (next year), and both products will be built on a brand new platform called ‘Platform-E’. It has stated that one product will be a fixed battery type EV and the other will feature battery swapping tech.
Ola Adventure
Ola recently gave us a sneak peek of its forthcoming motorcycle lineup, one of which was the Adventure. While the particulars remained veiled, a quick glance revealed a tall seat, dual-purpose tires, spoked wheels, hand guards, ample ground clearance, and an overall rugged look.
The Adventure could be officially launched in India in November 2024. Ola could then price it at around Rs 3 lakh, ex-showroom.
Hero Electric AE-8
Hero Electric unveiled the AE-8 electric scooter at the 2020 Auto Expo. Hero hasn't revealed the entire spec sheet yet, but it has announced that the AE-8 gets a top speed of 25kmph and a range of 80km. In terms of features, it comes with a full-LED headlight and a full-digital instrument console. The front apron also seems to come with a unique-looking honeycomb design backlit in blue.
LML Star
LML Star EV will launch in India at an expected price of Rs 1.30 Lakh. Star is expected to launch in March 2024. It will compete with Vida V1, River Indie, Bajaj Chetak. LML has started appointing dealers across the country for the electric scooter. As many as 50 dealerships will be opened in the first phase.
BSA Electric Bike
BSA is all set to make a comeback. And it has taken to social media to announce its comeback date.
The first motorcycle for BSA's modern portfolio will break cover at the Birmingham Motorcycle Show in the UK. While not much is known, we believe it'll be a retro electric motorcycle. This is backed by BSA's teaser which shows a circular headlamp, a flat and wide handlebar, bar-end mirrors, and a twin-pod instrument cluster.
Ultraviolette F99
Ultraviolette has unveiled the F99 Racing Program at EICMA 2023. The race-spec made in India Ultraviolette F99 gets a liquid-cooled motor delivering a peak power output of 90kW and a claimed top speed of 265kmph. It accelerates from 0-100kmph in 3 seconds and along with the top speed, this makes the F99 India’s fastest electric superbike.
It may come with a price tag of about Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). There are no natural rivals for the F99, but if you’re looking for a high-performance electric bike right now, the Ultraviolette F77 is the only option.
Yamaha Neo’s
The Yamaha Neo’s is essentially an eco-friendly take on the original 50cc petrol-powered Neo’s that was popular in the 90s. And consequently, it retains some of the trademark design elements including the distinctive twin headlights. The e-scooter comes with a curvy yet compact looking bodywork, complete with rubber mouldings around the edges of the bodywork to protect it from minor scratches.
Okinawa Oki100
The brand suggests the Oki100 will offer performance equivalent to a modern ICE-powered 125cc commuter motorcycle. It will reportedly deliver a claimed range of 150km under ideal riding conditions. Powering the EV will be a frame-mounted electric motor rather than a hub-motor.
