Maruti Suzuki recalls over 17k vehicles across six models

Maruti Suzuki announced on Wednesday that it was recalling 17,362 units of six of its models to address a potential airbag controller fault.

The models include Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza, Baleno, and Grand Vitara. 

As per a statement by the automaker, the above vehicles manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023 are affected by this fault.

The recall is to inspect and replace the affected part of the airbag controller, which could, in rare situations, not deploy the airbags and seat belt pretensioners in the event of a vehicle crash, Maruti added.

Earlier, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) had recalled 9,925 units of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Celerio and Ignis to rectify a possible defect in the rear brake assembly pin on cars manufactured between August 3 and September 1, 2022.

While vehicle recalls are not new in India, Maruti Suzuki, being the largest selling automobile manufacturer in India had recalled the highest number of vehicles in 2021. 

It had recalled a total of 1,81,754 vehicles in 2021 for several faults in several models.
