Earlier available only in high-end luxury cars like Volvo, Tesla, and Mercedes-Benz, this technology is now available in some mid-range cars in India. Nearly all mid-size premium SUVs now provide buyers the option of adding ADAS.
As with any other technology, ADAS' primary purpose is to help drivers prevent accidents, however, many car buyers abuse this capability as well. In one such instance, a video of a man playing around with his wife while driving on a highway in a Mahindra XUV700 has appeared online. The video has borne the wrath of netizens as well.
The video, uploaded by an Instagram profile with the handle name ‘afsar_ghudasi44’, shows the driver taking unnecessary risks by putting both feet on the passenger seat’s headrest while the car appears to be driving on its own using the ADAS features. The footage has been shared widely on social media, with many people expressing their concerns over the dangerous stunt.
Several viewers blasted the user for encouraging risky driving and endangering the lives of others. To stop similar incidents from happening again, some people demanded stronger rules and enforcement. We think automakers should immediately be making people aware of the proper and improper usage of ADAS features. Also, the government ought to join in on the action and even highlight how serious the problem is.
The misuse of ADAS features is not limited to the Mahindra XUV700, as similar incidents have been reported in other cars as well. Many people indulge in dangerous stunts to create content for social media, often disregarding rules and putting themselves and others at risk.
