Volkswagen India has announced that it will increase car prices across its model range from January 2023.
After Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors, who recently announced price hikes, Volkswagen too has cited rising commodity prices and upcoming regulatory changes as the reason for the impending price hike.
However, the company has not revealed the quantum of the price hike till now.
Volkswagen is currently offering three models in India; the Virtus compact sedan, the Taigun small SUV, and the Tiguan mid-size SUV.
The Tiguan is sold in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and only assembled in India, unlike the first two vehicles, which are both manufactured in India.
The Virtus currently costs between Rs 11.32 lakh to Rs 18.42 lakh, whereas the Taigun costs between Rs 11.56 lakh to Rs 18.96 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, India). On the other hand, the Volkswagen Tiguan costs Rs. 33.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The price hike comes a day after the German brand announced its pan-India exchange and upgrade carnival. The carnival kicked off on December 16 and will continue till December 18 across all its sales touch points in India.
Volkswagen is not the first automaker to announce a price hike. Other carmakers like Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai India, Jeep India, Audi India, Mercedes-Benz India, and Volvo Cars India, have also said that they will be increasing car prices from January 2023. Even Tata Motors has announced that it will be increasing the price of its commercial vehicles from January 2023.
