Remember Luna, the most popular moped back in the 80s? Yes, the mercurial moped manufactured by Kinetic is soon going to be relaunched in India, though in an electric avatar.
Kinetic Green has announced that orders for the new electric two-wheeler, E-Luna will kick from today onwards, requiring a token amount of just Rs 500. Interested buyers can reserve their E-Luna on the official Kinetic Green website, with the pricing set to be disclosed in February, as reported by Times Now.
The electric moped has already been listed on some e-commerce websites, with prices ranging from 71,990 and Rs 74,990 (ex-showroom).
As expected, the Kinetic E-Luna looks similar to the ICE-powered version of yesteryear. The E-Luna has a utilitarian design that appears pretty basic. It has a circular headlamp integrated into a square housing and a rectangular instrument console.
The e-moped has a 2-piece flat seat set at a height of 760 mm and a raised handlebar. It is equipped with a telescopic front fork and has dual shock absorbers at the rear. It rides on 16-inch spoked wheels.
According to a listing in e-commerce site Amazon, the E-Luna is powered by a hub-mounted electric motor that generates 22 Nm of peak torque. It comes with a 2 kWh battery pack, which offers a claimed range of 110 km and can be charged in 4 hours. The E-Luna weighs just 96 kg and has a top speed of around 50-52 km/h.
Sulajja Firodia Motwani, the Founder and CEO of Kinetic Green, expressed her enthusiasm for the revival, stating, “We are thrilled to announce the return of the iconic Luna in a brand-new electric avatar. With the E-Luna, Kinetic Green embarks on a journey down memory lane, set to launch in early February 2024, with bookings commencing on Republic Day, January 26, 2024.”
After 28 years of being in production, Kinetic stopped making the Luna in early 2000. During its peak, the company y sold around 2000 units a day and enjoyed around 95 percent market share in the moped category.
In its lifetime Kinetic sold around 5 million units of Luna.
