New Delhi: BJP on Saturday alleged that the government`s appeal against the high court order in the Babri mosque demolition case after "a long gap" is an attempt to divert people`s attention from burning issues like corruption, inflation and black money.

"A case which was dismissed long ago is now being appealed in the Supreme Court by the CBI. The timing of the appeal shows that the Congress is making gross misuse of CBI.

It also shows the exasperation of the Congress as they are now facing the anger of the country on corruption, inflation and black money," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He alleged that CBI appealed after "a long time gap" since the case was dismissed by the Allahabad High Court.

"This is nothing but the worst form of politics. That is why people call CBI the Congress Bureau of Investigation.

We condemn this. When Congress is under pressure due to the national outcry on important issues this has been done to divert attention from them," Javadekar said.

BJP maintained that it will "fight it out" in court when the matter comes up for hearing.

Congress, however, dismissed the allegations and said that the same CBI gave clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the former state home minister Harin Pandya`s murder case.

"It is convenient for them to blame CBI. But they forget that it was the same CBI, which had given Narendra Modi a clean chit in Pandya murder case during UPA regime at the Centre. Now when CBI action is going against them, they are trying to malign the institution," party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said.

"If the Opposition does not have faith in CBI, why does it make a demand for CBI inquiry in each and every issue," he wondered.
