Cuttack: An ambulance carrying a road accident victim to SCB Medical College Hospital here met with an accident today killing both its driver and the victim, police said.

The driver of the ambulance died on the spot following the accident at Pirabazar on National Highway No. 5, while the victim travelling in the ambulance died during treatment in the hospital, police said.

Two of the relatives accompanying the victim also sustained injuries and are now admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, police added.

According to Cuttack Sadar police, the ambulance was carrying Shankar Praharaj (28), a native of Balipatna, who sustained severe injuries in a road accident while riding on his motorbike last night.

The NH patrol ambulance was carrying him to the Cuttack hospital but met with an accident when one of its rear wheels developed a puncture.

The ambulance overturned and hit a road divider killing the driver Manas Jagdev (45), police said adding the driver was a native of Khurda district.
