In a tragic turn of events, two separate bus accidents in Odisha’s Kalahandi and Ganjam districts claimed two lives and left several others critically injured on Thursday morning, raising fresh concerns over road safety in the state.
Fatal Collision in Kalahandi
A bus travelling from Bhubaneswar to Umerkote met with a tragic accident near Charbahal village under the jurisdiction of Koksara police station in Kalahandi district, when it collided head-on with a stationary truck. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the death of one passenger on the spot. Seven others, including the driver and conductor, sustained serious injuries in the mishap.
The injured have been taken to the nearby Junagarh Hospital for urgent medical care. Authorities have commenced an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
Tragedy Strikes Again in Ganjam
Likewise, in the Ganjam district, a bus named Beena Pani was involved in a fatal crash at Lakshminarayanapur Square, under the Digapahandi police station. While returning from Bhubaneswar to Turubudi, the bus veered off course and perched atop a rest house, pinning the driver underneath. Rescuers managed to extract the driver, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Police quickly responded to the scene and extracted the trapped driver, who was immediately transported to a hospital. Despite efforts, the driver was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police in both districts are probing the incidents, seeking to understand the accident causes and enforce transportation safety.
