Four persons including two women and a child were killed and several others were injured after a bus overturned on the Kanakata ghat in Ganjam.
While two women died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The injured have been rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment and the grievously injured have been shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
As per reports, the bus bearing registration number of OR 02 BB 9777, was enroute to Patrapur in Ganjam from Rayagarh in Gajapati, when the driver lost control. The bus then skidded off the road and overturned.
Patrapur BDO, Prakash Chandra Das, who was on the spot after the mishap, said,"Two persons have died on the spot. The injured have been sent to Patrapur hospital. And the grievously injured will be sent to MKCG as per the refferal of the doctor.
It is worthwhile to mention here that least six passengers were killed and 42 others had sustained critical injuries after a bus carrying tourists overturned near Kalinga Ghat on Ganjam-Kandhamal border on May 2022.
Following the mishap, the Odisha government had restricted vehicles of other states from using the Kalinga Ghat road as the drivers are not accustomed to the hairpin bends of the road.
